Burberry London Doesn’t Need To Make A Comeback

While Burberry may not have reinvented the wheel this season, they delivered wearable pieces and cultivated a sense of familiarity.

At Burburry London SS25, expectations were high. In recent fashion months, a recurring question has been: Will Burberry make a comeback? While brands like The Row, Toteme and Khatie can get away with basics and minimalism, it seems that so much more is expected from a house like Burberry.

In a recent Instagram post, the brand describes the new garments as “born of function, grounded in heritage.” Aside from some surprising feathers and unexpected sequins, the overall focus was on wearability and streamlined simplicity. But is that enough to keep up with the rest of the legacy houses?

Shown at the National Theatre with attendees like Barry Keogan, Skepta, Jack Harlow and couple Nara and Lucky Blue Smith, here are the highlights from their latest show by Daniel Lee.

Signature Plaid

The signature Burberry plaid, a hallmark of the brand along with their trench coats, dominated SS25 in various styles and cuts — from full co-ords to pants and jackets. We’re spotting this pattern throughout September fashion month, including at the Tommy Hilfiger show.

Surprising Feathers

We find the use of feathers as shoulder adornments across multiple looks surprising. This makes us wonder if feathers will become a trend off the runway next season.

Accessorizing with Scarves

In a formula of monochromatic t-shirts and cargo pants, minimalist all-black outfits pair with neck scarves. This highlights how bold accessories can elevate a chic, understated look. Currently, we’ve noticed a similar trend with Heaven Mayhem’s brooches being used to dress up basic white tank tops.

Unexpected Sequins

Sequin-covered dresses and tops are also prominent. Like the feathers, we’re curious to find out how this divisive material will be worn for SS25.

Pops of Purple

While yellow was the standout color of NYFW runways, Burberry showcased pale and mulberry-hued purples as its key shade for the show. This color appeared on tops, matching sets, dresses, and shoes.

Utilitarian Jackets

Utilitarian jackets make a comeback every few years, and this season, they were a key feature in the quintessentially British brand’s new collection. With variation in how they can be styled, we expect these to be a go-to for spring outwear.

SS25

As we look ahead, it will be interesting to see how some of these more polarizing runway inspirations translate into mainstream fashion. While Burberry may not have reinvented the wheel this season, they delivered wearable pieces and introduced a few unforeseen choices in materials and color palettes. Perhaps instead of wondering when the house will make a comeback, we should appreciate how they continue to cultivate a sense of familiarity.
