A Look Back at the Best Met Gala Looks from the 2025 Co-Chairs

History is being made with Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo.

The co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala have just been announced, and it’s not just legendary — it’s historic. Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo will co-chair the 2025 Met Gala alongside Anna Wintour and honorary chair LeBron James. The theme? “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Miller, a professor of Africana studies at Barnard College, will serve as the guest curator, making her The Costume Institute’s first-ever Black curator.

This year’s theme focuses on a long-overdue topic with profound meaning and significance, which may surprise many, especially considering that some past themes have been more frivolous. This will be the museum’s first to exclusively showcase the work of designers of color. Additionally, it is the first in over two decades to center on men’s wear since 2003’s “Men in Skirts.”

Vogue shared, “The exhibit will feature garments, paintings, photographs, and more — all exploring the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th century to the present day. As such, the 2025 chairs could not be more fitting.” The show will be on view from May 6 through October 26 next year. It will have historical garments and contemporary pieces by designers like Grace Wales Bonner, Virgil Abloh, and Olivier Rousteing. Other noteworthy details include artwork by Torkwase Dyson, Tanda Francis, and Iké Udé. Tyler Mitchell, the first Black photographer to shoot a Vogue cover, will photograph the catalog. Sponsorships will come from Louis Vuitton, Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Africa Fashion International and Tyler Perry. For dinner, the menu will be curated by Nigerian American chef and author Kwame Onwuachi.

While the forthcoming dress code remains a secret, we decided to look back at the best Met Gala looks of the newly announced 2025 co-chairs.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams has attended many Met Galas, making his first appearance in 2010. In 2017, he wore Comme des Garçons, and in both 2018 and 2021, he wore looks by Chanel.

A$AP Rocky

A$AP Rocky has solidified himself as a fashion icon. Our favorite Met Gala outfits from him include his ERL quilt in 2021 and his Gucci ensemble in 2023.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton, the British F1 driver, made a statement in Burberry at the 2024 Met Gala. Since the theme that year was “Garden of Time,” his look was inspired by one of the UK’s first Black gardeners, John Ystumllyn.

Colman Domingo

Colman Domingo also attended the 2024 gala, wearing a stunning custom-made suit by Willy Chavarria, complemented by a bouquet of white lilies. His design paid tribute to two late Black icons — actor Chadwick Boseman and Vogue journalist André Leon Talley — who both wore capes to previous Met Galas. Domingo will be the first Afro-Latino to co-chair the event.
