There were a few trends that came out of this New York Fashion Week, but the most dominant of them told us one thing: the quiet luxury aesthetic is out, and expressive, bold clothing is back. This NYFW, pleating, patterns and plaid dominated the runways—here are the standout collections that mastered the trend.
Thom Browne

Surrounded by 2,000 origami birds, Thom Browne had 66 models (or “otherworldly visitors”, as he called them), unveil his FW25 collection. The collection featured layered herringbone suits, tweed outerwear, and patterns galore. Almost every look was a nod to the classic pantsuit, but with a larger than life plaid twist.
Norma Kamali

Some of the best looks from NYFW came out of Norma Kamali’s FW25 collection. Pleated skirts, patterned trenches, plaid dresses and vegan leather were the collections main components. An unexpected twist? Kamali’s ability to seamlessly (and fashionably) integrate camouflage looks into the collection. The biggest bonus? Every look is machine washable—perfect for the on the go modern woman.
Melke

Melke hosted a Midwestern Supper Club sponsored by Hidden Valley Ranch to unveil their FW25 collection. Pleated knits and plaid pants suits in earthy tones referenced the warmth you’d find in a supper club—a nod to designer Emma Gage’s Midwestern roots. The collection was a standout of NYFW and achieved its goal of bringing the homegrown nostalgia of the Midwest to New York City.
Cucculelli Shaheen

Cucculelli Shaheen’s FW25 runway show was an homage to rock and roll. Models strutted down the runway to live music by The Spyrals, draped in jeweled tones, leather pants and lots of patterned lace. The designers, Anthony Cucculelli and Anna Rose Shaheen, stated they draw inspiration from classic art, mythology and New York City—as evidenced by their FW25 collection, full of the edgy nostalgia of New York City’s early aughts.
Taottao

Taottao, founded in 2022, was a standout amongst a myriad of FW25 collections. Stockings that were both lace and patterned, floral and plaid were incorporated into a majority of the looks. The collection, inspired by antique furniture, featured acid wash denim, multilayered plaid skirts and pleated silhouettes. Taottao’s plaid square toe mules were our standout shoes from NYFW FW25.
