New Years Fitness Workouts That Don’t Require A Gym Membership

To keep you motivated all year long.

With the new year here and fitness goals dominating resolutions, we’ve been thinking about ways to stay active without the confines of a gym. From high-energy workouts to mindful movement, there are so many different ways to workout. Here are our favorite workout class ideas to help you start the year.

Start Your Day With Pilates

Whether you choose to do mat or reformer, pilates is our favorite way to work out. The low-impact, but still effective nature of it has converted us from HIIT workouts. Many studios offer different variations to switch things up—regular, with kettlebells, or hot.

Take Up Boxing

Although it doesn’t require any prior experience, boxing isn’t for the faint of heart. These full-body classes are typically set up where half of the class is spent on boxing drills and the other half is resistance training. You’ll definitely get your heart rate up and leave having broken a sweat.

Try Tennis, Pickleball or Padel

More into racket sports? Whether you’re a tennis enthusiast, a pickleball player, or a fan of padel, there’s a court for you. Depending on where you live, you can check out local parks with tennis courts or book time at indoor facilities.

Decompress With Yoga

Committing to doing yoga consistently and forming a deeper practice changes people’s lives. Beyond the exercise, the meditative and grounding benefits are incredible. There are so many different types of yoga as well. You could do vinyasa, bikram, yin—the list goes on. Many studios also have a great community, such as SKY TING if you’re in NYC. One of our favorite classes we’ve ever done was through The Puppysphere, which is our dream come true: flow yoga, but with puppies. A 75 minute experience, the yoga class is 25 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of quality time with the cutest puppies. These are offered in several locations, including NYC, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Montreal, and Toronto.

Find Your Perfect Workout

No matter what your fitness goals are for the new year, there’s a workout for everybody—whether it’s low-impact or alongside puppies. Staying active doesn’t have to mean a gym membership; it’s about finding a fitness routine that suits you best, whether it’s taking your emotions out on a punching bag or calming your mind through a slower practice. As we all strive to put our best foot forward this year, why not make 2025 the year you try a new workout class?
