The British Fashion Council announced on Tuesday that Edward Enninful OBE, the current Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue, will receive the prestigious Trailblazer Award for his leadership and contributions to the fashion industry. The Trailblazer Award celebrates those who have shaped the landscape of fashion in a meaningful way. Previous recipients include Alessandro Michele of Gucci and Kim Jones of Dior.
Edward Enninful was appointed Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue in 2017 and was the the first black editor to hold the title. Throughout his six year tenure, Enninful changed the landscape of British Vogue, and Vogue as a global brand, forever. Speaking of his vision for British Vogue, Enninful stated, “I wanted to reflect what I saw here growing up, to show the world as this incredibly rich, cultured place. I wanted every woman to be able to find themselves in the magazine.” With those ethos in mind, Enninful bolstered British Vogue’s global success.
Enninful recently announced he would be stepping down from the role of Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue and stepping into a new position as Editorial Advisor of British Vogue and Global Creative and Cultural Advisor of Vogue. Condé Nast has described Enninful as “an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist” per The Guardian. When asked about his new role, Enninful stated “I will continue to contribute to the creative and cultural success of the Vogue brand globally while having the freedom to take on broader creative projects”. The March 2024 issue will be his last as Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue.
The Trailblazer Awards will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on December 4th.
