Prada SS25 Is Entering The Space Race

In the Fondazione Prada on a Thursday afternoon, the Prada SS25 collection took our algorithms to space.

In the Fondazione Prada on a Thursday afternoon in Milan, Prada unveiled their SS25 collection. At first glance, the collection seemed to be in disarray — featuring silhouettes, fabrics and influences from decades past. Patent leather loafers, space race-inspired accessories and orange cowboy boots — it seemed Prada SS25 gave everything but cohesion. The brand reinforced this idea in the show notes, stating “a sequence of concurrent realities are here dedications to the individual, every look a unique reflection of their present. There is a plurality of Prada, elements from different eras coexisting simultaneously to challenge any theory of chronology, creating impossible contradictions, points of difference.”

Though upon closer look, references weaved together in what could only be described as a brilliant homage to the past; the legacy of not only Prada, but Miuccia and Raf as well. And the past isn’t the only homage within Prada’s SS25 collection. The purpose of the show was to make sense of the jumble of information presented to us each day, with the brand stating “we exist in an era of extreme information, immersed in a constant stream of content. Our consumption of the infinite panorama offered by the Internet is driven by algorithms, finite sequences of instructions that circumscribe the decidable through logic in a fundamentally illogical world.”

The collection is a nod to the information age — the idolization of our algorithms. From the space race to the endless social media scroll, here’s our breakdown of every note-worthy theme from the Prada SS25 show.

Intergalactic Metallics

Though at first glance the collection seemed to lack cohesion, there was one constant at Prada SS25: metallics, and lots of them. The use of cutouts and paring each piece with bold color gives the chrome skirts and metallic dresses an intergalactic yet wearable feel.

Super Color

Bold colors were another consistent theme in Prada SS25. With Miuccia at the helm, you can see hints of Miu Miu weaved throughout the show. The collection featured multicolored bloomers, paired with oversized collars and bold colored ascots. We even saw an appearance of this seasons “it” color, butter yellow. The boldness of the collection gives it a space-y, superhero feel.

Raf Simons reinforced the idea of the space superhero being an influence in the collection, stating “the notion of the superhero becomes a representation of the centrality of the individual, their agency, and of the power of creativity as a means to transform”, and that he viewed “each individual [look] as a superhero — with their own power, their own story.” Girl of the 21st century, indeed.

Defying Gravity

Popped collars, shoe tongues standing at attention and dress straps with a mind of their own — Prada SS25 defied gravity. We saw this defiance weaved throughout a number of looks within the collection. Not unfamiliar on SS25 runways, this trend is sure to dominate the rest of Fashion Month. At this rate, we’ll all be over-starching our dress shirts come spring.

Extraterrestrial Eyewear

Geometric sunglasses rounded out the out-of-this-world Prada SS25 collection. The opposite of innocuous, the extraterrestrial frames gave each look an edge. The looks, however, were paired with classic Prada garments and completed with subtle footwear. The familiarity of classic Prada throughout the show gave each look a sense of wearability.
